Samia McCully

Naturopathic Doctor

Education

Dr. Samia McCully holds a Bachelor of Science in physiology and psychology from the University of Western Ontario. She has her doctorate in naturopathic medicine from Bastyr University. Every two years, naturopathic doctors are required to get 60 hours of continuing medical education – one of her favorite things to do is learning at conferences. She also seeks out other venues for learning that fall outside of the “medical education” criteria. Between reading, listening to other medical practitioners podcasts, and attending health related conferences, Dr. McCully has accrued over 10,000 hours of post medical education.

Why Natural Medicine?

During college, Dr. McCully developed some digestive problems. After two years of treatment with prescription medications and no relief, she was taken to a naturopathic doctor. By simply changing her diet and avoiding a few aggravating foods, her digestion improved dramatically. This experience ignited a fire of interest in natural medicine that only grew as she learned more.

Life Experiences

After college graduation, Dr. McCully journeyed overseas to teach for three years. While living in South Korea, The United Arab Emirates, and Lebanon, she traveled extensively all over the world and experienced many different cultures.

At 25 years old, she had the opportunity to meet her Lebanese father after not seeing him since she was one. This life changing experience led to multiple stays in Lebanon, getting to immerse herself in family, culture and food. One experience included picking olives for a week and taking them to the mill to be pressed for olive oil. Ironically, her father was known as the village medicine man. People would bring their animals and family members to him to be healed. He would take her to the mountains to pick herbs and make them into tinctures and other kinds of medicine.

Her yearning for new experiences, combined with great curiosity and fascination with health, lead her to Bastyr University, the world’s leading school for natural medicine. After graduation and a little more traveling, Wellness Architecture was born. It was the perfect way to facilitate health empowerment through education and practical hands-on experiences.
Dr. McCully lives in Menlo Park and is married with three kids ages 8, 11 and 14. Besides traveling and learning, she loves to walk, cook and spend time with her family.
